John Kerry Smacks “Candidate McCain”

John Kerry was terrific last night. My favorite part was:

I have known and been friends with John McCain for almost 22 years. But every day now I learn something new about candidate McCain. To those who still believe in the myth of a maverick instead of the reality of a politician, I say, let’s compare Senator McCain to candidate McCain.

Candidate McCain now supports the wartime tax cuts that Senator McCain once denounced as immoral. Candidate McCain criticizes Senator McCain’s own climate change bill. Candidate McCain says he would now vote against the immigration bill that Senator McCain wrote. Are you kidding? Talk about being for it before you’re against it.

Let me tell you, before he ever debates Barack Obama, John McCain should finish the debate with himself. And what’s more, Senator McCain, who once railed against the smears of Karl Rove when he was the target, has morphed into candidate McCain who is using the same “Rove” tactics and the same “Rove” staff to repeat the same old politics of fear and smear. Well, not this year, not this time. The Rove-McCain tactics are old and outworn, and America will reject them in 2008.

McCain’s Sentence Structure

To paraphrase Joe Biden’s brilliant analysis of Rudy Guiliani, each McCain sentence these days seems to contain a noun, a verb, and POW!

Seemingly, John McCain is beyond criticism because he was a prison of war.

This video – seen on DailyKos.com today – sums it up pretty well.

Hillary BROUGHT It!

All the anger and mistrust I felt about Hillary Clinton’s primary campaign against Barack Obama melted away as I watched her impassioned speech last night. I, like many of the NBC/MSNBC talking heads afterwards, thought it was pitch-perfect in her support for Obama.  While I’m sure she still feels some of the sting from her primary defeat, Mrs. Clinton knows that only an Obama presidency can achieve the goals upon which her campaign was built.

It must be a very disappointing morning to wake up a McCain supporter. The Democrats are united. While there is a long way to go, we are significantly closer this morning to the reality of an Obama presidency.

Yes, we can!

Michelle Obama

I arrived home last night and was able to watch only the very end of Michelle Obama’s speech to the Democratic National Convention.  What little I heard, and watching Barack and Michelle’s adorable daughters interact with video of him, brought tears to my eyes.

This FAMILY must be in the White House come January 2009.

This HAS TO happen.  The alternative is simply horrifying to me.

I’m Serious This Time…

You’ve heard it here before, but this time I mean it. I’m serious. Don’t look at me that way!

I am going to re-re-rededicate myself to posting here more often.

Those of you reading this who know me personally – probably all of you – know that I’m not usually at a loss for words/funny stories/details of funny videos/political opinions/Philly sports team angst or euphoria, etc., to share.

To spare my darling wife Erin – and my lunch buddies – I’ll put those items here. They may be short quips, insights, videos, thought purges, or long-winded rants, but at least the intertubes will have a little more content in them.  If I can keep it up, this blog will be updated daily.

I mean it.
