Bragging…just a bit

Wow. September 15th was my last post on here. And the last few were just reposts of other people’s stuff…sorry I’ve been such a blogger slacker.

The thing is, I have been extremely busy with some pretty amazing stuff. The top of that list, however, just happened on Monday.

I had the tremendous pleasure of singing a performance with Sting in a presentation of his new material, songs by the 16th century composer/lutenist John Dowland. In a performance for 300 people that was recorded for broadcast on XM Satellite Radio as part of their Artist Confidential series, I sang back up (with seven other singers) on two of his pieces.

In my eight years living (and gigging) in New York, this was by far the coolest gig I’ve done. In person, Sting is a very gracious, polite, interesting guy. He’s also a pretty fantastic musician and singer.

We chatted a bit, talking about his learning the lute, an instrument that “scares the hell out of (him),” in his words. He talked of challenging himself, getting out of his comfort zone and taking on “an apprenticeship.”

The album, Songs from the Labyrinth, is very interesting. I highly recommend it. (I’m listening to it now, actually!)

What a day!

Note: I’m waiting on the group photo we had taken. Once that is available, I’ll post it on here.

Note #2: The broadcast, if you happen to have XM Radio, is scheduled to premiere on Monday, October 16th on XM Pops and XM Classical.
